Travelling to Thailand and need to book your train tickets online in advance? Based in Bangkok, I offer an online reservation service allowing you to ensure you have the reservations you need – your tickets will be delivered to your hotel or guest house in Bangkok in time for your arrival.
How does it work?
Simply visit www.thairailticket.com to check out the route you wish to take and the cost of your ticket. If you’re not sure, drop me a line for some advice. Then use the form below to request your tickets. I’ll send you back a PayPal invoice – once I’ve received payment from you, I’ll book your tickets in person and have them sent to your Bangkok hotel or guest house ready for you to pick up from reception. If you’re already here, I can have them to you with a day’s notice – if you’re planning ahead, I can hold on to your tickets and get them to your hotel or guest house in time for your arrival.
Can’t I do this myself?
It used to be possible to book your tickets online directly with the State Railways of Thailand and then collect them on the day of travel. Sadly, that’s no longer possible. If you’re already in Bangkok you can still buy them in person at the train station in advance (that’s what I’m offering to do for you) – but that’s not much good to you if you’re not yet in Thailand and are looking to plan ahead. Or you can buy them at the time you travel – that works for some people, but some more popular routes sell out ahead of time and you might be left unable to get the train you need.
How much does it cost?
You pay the actual cost of the tickets (the price you see on the www.thairailticket.com web site, which is the same as if you were to go in person yourself), plus a 35% service charge with a minimum service charge of THB 300. Plus there’s a THB 200 charge to deliver the tickets to your hotel or guest house, anywhere in central Bangkok.
19.30 express sleeper train from Bangkok to Surat Thani (jumping off point for Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Samui), arriving 07.06 the next day – second-class air-conditioned lower berth, THB 768 (£14.15/USD$23.70/AUD$26.20/CAD$26.00/€17.30).
Plus 20% service charge (THB 269); minimum THB 300.
Plus THB 200 delivery fee.
Total THB 1,268 (£23.40/USD$39.10/AUD$43.30/CAD$42.90/€28.60).
Why should I use your service?
I’m a long-time traveller in Thailand and have now lived in Bangkok for almost four years. I’m a frequent user of the Thai railway network and am happy to answer your questions about which route to take, how best to get to your destination etc. And being here means I can take the stress out of your trip planning by allowing you to confirm your bookings in advance.
What if my chosen route is sold out?
If the route and date you’ve asked for is sold out when I try to book your ticket, I’ll let you know by e-mail and give you the chance to choose a different date, time or route. You’re also welcome to specify alternatives at the time of booking in case you want to speed things up – if that’s the case and your first choice is sold out, I’ll make an alternative booking according to your list of preferences. If you don’t want to choose an alternative when I let you know your chosen option is sold out, that’s fine – I’ll refund you everything you paid and you’ll have lost nothing.
How late can I book?
I recommend booking as far in advance as you can in order to secure the seat type, route and time/date that you want (this is especially true on the more popular routes, such as those down south towards the islands, and sleeper trains heading north to Chiang Mai). But to take account of time differences (Bangkok is 7 hours ahead of GMT), I need a minimum of one full day’s notice to turn around your request. If I’m unable to meet your request because of timing, I’ll refund you in full right away.
Can I change my mind and get a refund?
Thai railway tickets are non-refundable after purchase. Unfortunately this means I’m also unable to offer any refunds once your tickets have been booked – that includes the ticket price, the service charge and delivery fee. You get one shot at the top, I’m afraid.
