Food Porn: Nasi Lemak

Nasi Lemak at Nagasari Curry House

This Malaysian staple, a favourite at traditional kopi tiam Chinese-style coffee shops and perhaps the national dish, is a winning combination and testament to the saying that ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’. Take coconut and pandan infused rice and add a whole host of accompaniments including fried chicken or chicken rendang curry, half a hard-boiled egg, fresh chilli sambal, fried anchovies and peanuts. What you get is an unforgettable dish, often eaten for breakfast but available around the clock, that is pretty much Malaysia on a plate. Though it’s readily found across the country, I tucked into this nasi lemak at Nagasari Curry House on Jalan Nagasari, in Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Bintang area.

RECOMMENDED: Check Agoda rates for Lacomme Inn, just off Jalan Nagasari

RECOMMENDED: Stay somewhere different, like KL’s new Container Hotel concept
