The road to Saint-Nazaire

Between 35 and 50 minutes by train from Nantes, Saint-Nazaire makes for a pleasant coastal getaway from the city, and is definitely worth a drop-in on any visit to the area. While not immediately striking as being overflowing with character or the usual charm of French seaside towns, it has its appeal in a long, open promenade along the sandy beach affording great views out to the Atlantic. Of particular note are the seemingly fishing-related shacks on stilts at the far end of the beach. And if you’re wondering what the photo of two very deep footprints is all about, this is the spot where I got sucked into what someone of a more exaggerative disposition might easily call quicksand.
